The original form of nursing was mostly part of the housework, the nurture and care of the sick took place in the family, and knowledge of nursing was very useful for daily life. However, these factors are merely particular aspects of nursing and, in Basic Nursing Education, we must take account of the fact that the nursing vocation is an attractive career in itself. Due to the special circumstances that accompanied the nursing profession, its wages and the nature of services related to care-giving in general, the nursing field tended to be dominated by females. However, at present, services connected with the nursing field are open to both genders in principle. So in that sense, the concept of the true essence of nursing is being determined by the ideas of the relationship between care and justice. The realization of the essentials of nursing in the future is likely to be even more influenced by the concepts of ethics and justice.
