We investigated for 185 general hospital nurses and 232 mental hospital nurses. Thirty items of the general health Questionnaire （GHQ-30 Japanese edition） were used for evaluating the conditions of mental hospital nurses. Among 6 factors of the GHQ-30 general illness, somniatic symptoms, sleep disturbance, anxiety and dysphoria were significantly higher with mental hospital nurses. According to the basic attributes, the score of the GHQ was higher in unmarried nurses and the nurses do overtime work more than eight hours or working alone. The nurses were in the poor mental health conditionns compared to the office workers.
